Lee Chong Wei determined to clinch Men’s singles title at the World Badminton Championships 2011
Malaysia’s ace shuttler, Lee Chong Wei, is determined to win the Men’s singles title in the World Badminton Championships 2011, which will take place from August 8 to 14, in London, England.
The World number one, Chong Wei, has surprisingly never passed the semi-final stage of the World Championships.
The 28-year-old shuttler said that this will be his last chance to win the title, as he is not expecting to participate in the next World Badminton Championship tournament, to be held in 2013.
As the top seed is aging at this point of his career, he is looking to gain momentum in order to continue playing at the highest level of the sport. Chong Wei will turn 30 by the next edition of the event, which puts his participation into some doubts.
Chong Wei has already clinched three titles in the opening three months of 2011, which includes the Malaysia Open super series and the prestigious All England Super Series. After winning against the Chinese Lin Dan in Manchester, the Malaysian player is
confident to continue his winning run in the World Championships in London.
The World Number one, while speaking on his future in the sport, said, "I want to focus on this year's World Championships first as I don't know whether I will still be playing in 2013. I don't need any more inspiration and I am hoping to win the title in
London."
The president of Badminton Association of Malaysia, Seri Nadzmi Salleh, revealed that Lee Chong will continue his training under the supervision of his current coach, Teh Siu Bock, as the shuttler is comfortable with the current settings.
Chong Wei further said, "I have had a good start this year and I want to keep the momentum going but at the same time, I will continue to be selective in choosing tournaments so that I can concentrate more on my preparations. I will play in the India, Malaysia
and Indonesia Opens before the World Championships.”
The World Number one will leave Malaysia for India tomorrow, to participate in the upcoming India Open Super Series 2011, which is set to begin from April 26. Chong Wei has a great chance to win the title in India as his arch-rival, Lin Dan of China, is
not participating in the event.
