Lee Chong Wei determined to keep on fighting for London Olympics – Badminton Update

Malaysian maestro Lee Chong Wei showed mental strength after suffering an ankle injury as he vowed to battle hard to ensure his presence in mega London Olympics, set to be staged from July 27, 2012.
The badminton king had to pull out from Thomas Cup Finals when he hurt his ankle during a fight against the legend Dane Peter Hoeg Gade and flew back home for detailed check up and treatment.
According to initial reports, this is just minor damage and Chong Wei can resume his activity in four weeks but if things get serious then it may jeopardise his stakes in the London Olympics.
However, the ace shuttler looked confident to get back on track in time as he showed determination to keep his flag high despite of hostile conditions.
Chong Wei said, "I have suffered the injury. I must be mentally stronger now to come back for the Olympics. I don't know how serious this injury is but I will keep on fighting."
Meanwhile, World Number one shuttler also recalled that painful incident when he decided to quit. He told that he was not ready to surrender but his paining ankle put his expedition to halt and he limped out of court.
Chong Wei said, "I didn't give up the fight (against Christensen) when I landed awkwardly. But it became very painful. I called for the doctor who saw the swell in my ankle and I noticed it when I got up. I tried to continue (playing) but couldn't."
This woeful exit of world’s top shuttler triggered the collapse and his team failed to rise against Danish side in his absence.
Malaysia missed a chance to become group winner by just one point and undoubtedly Chong Wei was the main difference between two countries.
The maestro feels guilty that he could not escort his country to glory. He could not hold back the tears while wishing the best for his team.
He said, "Feels very painful ... very sad I cannot help my team. I hope they can do their best."
Meanwhile, chief executive officer of National Sports Institute (NSI) Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz announced that NSI will give detailed report on his injury after doing a thorough scan in couple of days.
