Lee Chong Wei determined to lift Men’s Singles title at the 2011 World Championships: Badminton news
Malaysia’s famous shuttler, Lee Chong Wei is quite confident to continue his winning streak and win the Men’s Singles title at the 2011 World Championships. He has booked his place in the semi-final of the event by beating Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in the
Men’s Singles quarter-final contest.
Chong Wei, who is enjoying the top position in the Men’s Singles draw in the mega event, treated Cordon with a great touch of perfection in his game. He spared not even a little chance for the Guatemala shuttler to put any sort of resistance in the encounter.
World Number One, Chong Wei played remarkable badminton and got rid of his opponent in straight sets with a 21-7 and 21-13 score on the board. The top seed is yet to lose even a single set in all of his matches in the World Championships.
Chong Wei is in superb form and the shuttler has come closer to reach the final. However, he has to beat China’s Chen Jin in the semi-final of the event. Jin is the defending champion as he clinched the title at the 2010 World Championships.
In the quarter-final match, Chong Wei showed his class as he employed a high-level of skill and tested a variety of strokes against Cordon, who failed to continue his winning run in this mega event.
While talking about his performances in the previous editions of the World Championships, Chong Wei expressed, “I have always lost out at the earlier stages, mostly at the last eight with exception in 2005 when I made the semis. So making it to the semis
has somewhat lifted the curse and I am looking at the semis with renewed optimism.”
He further said, “But this is something that I have become accustomed to and delivering the title will be my gift to all Malaysians. It is the semis, whoever my opponent is, will raise their game but I am prepared for it. It is the title that I am after
and I will give it my best each time I step onto the court.”
Chong Wei and Chen Jin are set to lock horns in the semi-final of the event, which will be played today, on August 13, at the Wembley arena in London.
