Lee Chong Wei determined to perform well at the 2012 London Olympics - Badminton news
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei is determined to become stronger for the 2012 London Olympics after losing the Men’s Singles final to China’s Lin Dan at the 2011 BWF World Championships.
The World Number One Malaysian, who was the favourite for the title at the World Championships, once again failed to get rid of his main rival, Lin Dan, who has now become a four-time World Champion. The Malaysian lost the final contest after a breathtaking
fight with the score of 20-22, 21-14 and 23-21.
After losing to the Chinese shuttler, a dejected Chong Wei is willing to comeback in the same Wembley Arena next year by becoming physically and mentally stronger to nail the Men’s Singles title.
After the final showdown at the Wembley Arena, Chong Wei said, “From now all my preparation will be geared towards the Olympic Games. I will continue to give emphasis in training and look at ways to further improve my game.”
The final match of the World Championship indicates that there is no difference left between the two most successful shuttlers of the current generation. Chong Wei has worked really hard to come at this level and his effort has brought him to the rank of
Lin.
While talking about major opponents at the 2012 London Olympics, Chong Wei said, “Lin Dan will be the main threat again. I am happy to say that our standards are about the same now. I gave my all because the world title meant a lot to me and this desire
to get the better of him will only grow stronger.”
However, the Malaysian also knows that there are many other Chinese shuttlers beside Lin who will also become stronger and can spoil the party of any shuttler in the world. These shuttlers include Chen Long, Chen Jin and Du Pengyu.
Chong Wei also has a strong desire that back-up shuttlers of Malaysia raise their standard by working more hard to become world-class players like Chinese athletes, who have achieved a certain level of skill and are competing at the international level.
