Lee Chong Wei determined to scale new heights in Thomas Cup and 2012 London Olympics
It looks Malaysian badminton maestro Lee Chong Wei has got rid of horrible memories of recent past as he showed determination to escort his country to glory in Thomas Cup Finals and 2012 London Olympics.
The esteemed team event Thomas Cup is going to be staged from May 20 while the prestigious Olympic Games will be in full swing from July 27 and Chong Wei is the biggest hope for country in both tournaments.
World Number one shuttler recently returned from a short break due to shoulder injury and he came back with a bang in the Malaysia Open.
Now Chong Wei will lead national squad in China and he is positive to use his experience to lead from the front in coming team event.
He said, “Besides, after winning the Malaysian Open in JB, I’m more confident about my injured shoulder and am determined to deliver the first point for the team.”
Malaysia has announced a 10-member squad for Thomas Cup Finals and Men’s Singles event will see prime shuttlers like Lee Chong Wei, World Number 32 Daren Liew and the veteran Hafiz Hashim.
Meanwhile, World Number eight couple Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Lim Khim Wah-Goh v Shem will represent the country in Men’s Doubles category.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is sending its campaigners to Dongguan, China well before the event and Chong Wei appreciated this decision by declaring that this training camp will boost team spirit.
He said, “The training camp in Dongguan will be very important because we’ll be training and spending more time together. This will surely increase team spirit.”
Moreover the badminton king, who was named brand ambassador of CNI products, thanked his sponsors and stated that their support will definitely help him in his quest for a medal in London Olympics.
Chong Wei said, “I really have to thank CNI and all my other sponsors for supporting me. All this makes me even more determined to win the elusive first Olympic gold medal for Malaysia in London.”
BAM has also announced back-up squad for Thomas Cup Finals and Chong Wei Feng will join the Men’s Singles team while the Men’s Doubles squad will have Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong on back.
