This opening round match saw him swinging arms against Zhengming Wang of China and both Men's Singles players remained head-to-head for 56 minutes in the local badminton arena of Jakarta.
Although the World Number one Chong Wei wrapped this showdown in a commendable manner yet he had to sweat hard to win 20-22, 21-4 and 22-20. Things became difficult when he lost the opening game but he employed all of his experience and brilliance in the
final two games and managed to save the honour.
On the other hand, the young Chinese campaigner failed to make best out of his initial lead and crashed out of the prestigious event. Luck was not on Zhengming’s side as he had to surrender despite putting up a decent effort.
In first set of the match, he showed his intentions by giving Chong Wei tough time in the establishing rallies. He matched his rival’s skills in all areas of the game and remained close on the points table until the final moments.
He did not allow the Malaysian maestro to proceed on the points table and swept the table with a tight yet decisive margin of 22-20.
However, it proved his last success in this esteemed tournament as Chong Wei stormed back with a strong reply and cast him away in the second set. This time the Malaysian ace looked in prime touch as he maintained a significant difference of 17 points and
won this crucial game with an overwhelming score of 21-4.
The spectators were expecting Chong Wei to wrap the showdown in minimum time but the opposing shuttler showed great resilience and brought life back to the contest. Both contenders kept on chasing each other all the way to game point situation and made the
crowd gasp with their brilliant performance.
This nerve-racking set ended when Chong Wei registered a winning margin of 22-20 and ensured his presence in the pre quarter-finals of Indonesia Open.
