Lee Chong Wei ends his bad run against Chen Long in the semi-final of the French Open Super Series
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei finally ends his bad run against the Chen Long of China as he has defeated the Chinese in the Men’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 French Open Super Series, at Paris, France, on Saturday, October 29.
The World Number One, Chong Wei had to dig deep into his reserves to beat the Chinese after a thrilling fight which took 77 minutes of highest class badminton. The Malaysian emerged as the winner in three games and took revenge of his two defeats in the
recent events from the hands of Long.
Chong Wei worked extra hard in the first set and remained lucky in winning it with a close margin. In the following set, the Chinese played well and levelled the match by winning it with a decent margin. However, in the final game, Chong Wei found his impressive
form back and toppled the Chinese with a good margin.
In the first set of this semi-final clash, both shuttlers kept on snapping each other’s heel by playing at their maximum speed. A wonderful display of power-play from both sides entertained the huge crowd at the indoor arena in Paris.
The score reached at the concluding phase in the first set without showing a clear gap from any shuttler. Chong Wei employed all he had and took the winning points in the first set by finishing it with a 23-21 margin.
In the second game, Long became more aggressive and accelerated his speed at the net. His superb drives put Chong Wei in trouble as the Malaysian failed to use his attacking play effectively. Chong Wei made some crucial mistakes and also missed some easy
chances to score points. The top seed failed to stop the aggression of the Chinese and lost the set by a 17-21 score.
In the deciding game of this mouth-watering contest between two elite shuttlers, the score remained close in the first half. However, the top seed geared up his speed and employed his fabulous cross-court smashes and finished the game with a 21-15 margin.
The Malaysian won the match with a 23-21, 17-21 and 21-15 score.
