Lee Chong Wei expected to meet Wang Zhengming in the Indonesia Open Premier Super series 2011
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, who is the ruling World Number One in the Men’s Singles standings, is expected to meet China’s emerging star, Wang Zhengming, in the quarter-final stage of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011. The event will commence on
June 21, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In their three head-to-head meetings so far, Chong Wei emerged as the winner on all occasions. In their last meeting at the 2011 Korea Open Premier Super Series, the Malaysian defeated Zhengming in straight games.
Despite his impressive record against the Chinese shuttler in the past, Chong Wei does not underestimate the skills of his opponent and said, “I have never lost to him before but he has some special strokes. He is even better than his senior player Chen
Jin as far as being deceptive is concerned. One has to be wary if they are to play Zhengming.”
Zhengming is in great form as he has recently defeated former Olympic and World Champion, Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia, in the Men‘s Singles second round of the Singapore Open Super Series 2011.
Chong Wei’s biggest rival and second seed of the event, Lin Dan of China, will also compete for glory in the tournament. The Chinese was forced to withdraw from the final match against team-mate, Chen Jin, in the Singapore Open due to his stomach pain. His
participation in the Indonesia Open depends on his physical condition.
Chong Wei is confident to defend his title at the Indonesia Open, as he has been preparing well for the event.
Chong Wei said, “The Indonesia Open is an important tournament for me because of the Olympic Games qualifying points. I intend to do well. A good outing will also put me in good position ahead of the World Championships (which will be held in London from
Aug 8-14).”
In the Men’s Singles first round of the championship, the top seed will be up against local shuttler, Tommy Sugiarto, who has been playing superb badminton from the last few months.
