Lee Chong Wei expects a tough fight against Indonesian shuttlers in Sudirman Cup 2011 – Badminton News
Malaysia’s top seed and ruling World Number 1, Lee Chong Wei expects a tough fight when the Malaysian team will meet Indonesian shuttlers in the Sudirman Cup, on Monday, May 25.
Chong Wei said that despite the fact that the top shuttlers of Indonesia are missing the mixed team championship, the team can still create problems for the Malaysian players. He also added that the level of the game in Indonesia and Malaysia is the same.
The World Number 1 said that the Men’s Singles shuttlers of Indonesia including, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and Simon Santoso are among the best shuttlers in the world of badminton.
While talking about Indonesia’s singles shuttlers, Chong Wei said, “They all have the same qualities and I think they are as good as I am.”
However, the top seed has tremendous record against these two shuttlers from Indonesia. In the head-to-head meetings against Santoso, Chong Wei has won 7 battles, while the Indonesian was successful in only one of them.
Rumbaka, who is an upcoming player in the Indonesian Men’s Singles line-up, remained unable to win any in his two meetings against the World Number 1.
Chong Wei said, “I’ll just have to be at my best against either one of them to give a good result for my country,”
The Malaysian hero is determined to win the match against Indonesia, which will earn Malaysia the top position in the Group B. Malaysia has never passed the semi-final stage in the history of Sudirman Cup, which is the most prestigious mixed team championship.
Chong Wei said that their major target is to reach the top four. He wants to perform well as compared to the previous performances of Malaysia in this championship. China has clinched the last three consecutive titles in this event, proving that the Chinese
shuttlers are the best in business.
Malaysia will take on Indonesia on Wednesday, May 25 and the match has all the ingredients for it to be an enthralling contest. Indonesia have won their only Sudirman Cup title in 1989.
