Lee Chong Wei eyes Men’s Singles title win at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton news
Malaysian badminton hero, Lee Chong Wei, who is one of the most dominating shuttlers in the world, now sets his focus to win the Men’s Singles title at the upcoming 2011 World Championships, starting from August 8, at the Wembley Indoor Arena, in England.
The 28-year-old Malaysian wants to end his country’s title draught in the mega event this time, as he in superb form and has won six titles in the opening half of 2011.
In the last two editions of the World Championships, Chong Wei was the favourite for the Men’s Singles title, however, he had to suffer defeats on both occasions.
World Number One Chong Wei is quite confident this time to win the title at the world meet. He has never reached in the final of the World Championships, but he is expected to break the deadlock in this edition of the tournament.
While talking about his top seed position in the event, Chong Wei said, “I have been in a similar situation before. I will enter the world championships as the favourite but somehow, I will lose early. This time, I do not want to be subjected to the same disappointment.”
Chong Wei, the winner of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011, further added, “It is not easy to enter final after final in every tournament but I have done it for the last six months.” It gives me a lot of confidence but I also know the danger of feeling cocky with all these achievements.”
The Malaysian star knows that his main rivals in the world meet will be from China, particularly Lin Dan, who is the reigning Olympic Champion. Wei said, “China will still enter the world championships as one of the favourites. If one falls, the other waits to strike.”
Chong Wei knows that Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark and Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia are also among the major contenders in the world meet. Both shuttlers are highly experienced and can beat any player in the world on a given day.
