Lee Chong Wei fails to make his mark over Lin Dan in the final of 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s ace player, Lee Chong Wei failed to win the Men’s Singles title as he lost the final match to Lin Dan of China at the 2011 BWF World Championships. The encounter was held at the Wembley Arena in England, on Sunday, August 14.
Chong Wei, who has been maintaining his World Number One position in the Men’s Singles category for the last three years, once again failed to win the World Championships title and he still remains at the Number One spot in the world without having the title
of World Champion.
In the pursuit to become the first Malaysian World Champion, Chong Wei played phenomenal badminton in the whole tournament at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London by showing great dedication and proved that he rightly deserves the top position in Men’s Singles
category.
Until the final of the mega event, Chong Wei did not lose even a single set in all of his five matches, which showed that he came in the world meet with complete preparation to win the title. However, his biggest rival, China’s Lin Dan spoiled his party
and dashed his hopes by beating him after putting up a fabulous fight of three-sets with the margin of 20-22, 21-14 and 23-21.
Chong Wei also suffered defeat from the hands of the Chinese in the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China. Lin continued his domination over Chong Wei in key matches, proving that he is mentally stronger when it comes to bigger events like World Championships
and Olympic Games.
After losing the final, a heart broken Chong Wei said, “I had two chances to end the game but it did not happen for me ... Lin Dan took a great gamble at the crucial stage and I was quite unlucky. I gave my all. This is my best and closest match against
Lin Dan. It hurts to lose by two points in this manner.”
However, Chong Wei now wants to focus on the 2012 London Olympics and he is also determined to come back and win the 2013 edition of the World Championships.
