Lee Chong Wei finds a favourable draw in the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles ace, Lee Chong Wei got a favourable draw for the upcoming 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, which is set to kick-off on October 18, in Odense, Denmark.
World Number One shuttler, Chong Wei, who is still struggling to get rid of the bad memories of losing the final at the 2011 World Championships to Lin Dan of China, is expected to face the same opponent in the final.
Denmark Open is one of the five Premier Super Series events conducted by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the presence of top-ten shuttlers in all categories is mandatory in these events. So, the best shuttlers in the world will contest in the tournament.
Chong Wei will start his journey in the Denmark Open against India’s World Number 22 ranked Parupalli Kashyap. In the second round, the top seed is expected to meet Spain’s top shuttler, Pablo Abian.
The World Number One, who lost the final of Japan Open Super Series to China’s Chen Long two weeks ago, will be facing only one Chinese shuttler in his way to the final. The former World Champion, Chen Jin will be the major threat to Chong Wei at the quarter-final
stage.
If the Malaysian wins the quarter-final stage, he will take on either Denmark’s Peter Hog Gade or Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat in the semi-final of the event. Both shuttlers are quite experienced and it will be a good contest between the best shuttlers of
the world.
Chong Wei is expected to cross the semi-final hurdles as he has a good track record against both shuttlers. If things proceed according to paper, the Malaysian will face his arch rival and World Number Two, Lin Dan. The encounter will be a thrilling fight
between the two most celebrated athletes in the world of badminton.
Malaysian Singles national coach, Tey Seu Bock said, “The draw is good for Chong Wei. Chen Jin could give some resistance but Chong Wei should pull through and he has also been playing well against Peter Gade.”
A win at the Denmark Open will get the confidence of Chong Wei back and will help him to prepare well for the 2012 Olympic Games.
