Lee Chong Wei focuses to live up to expectations in Olympic Games – Badminton news
Malaysia’s best ever player Lee Chong Wei focuses to make his fans cheered by performing well at the Olympic Games, which will take place in London in July-August, 2012.
Chong Wei, who is World Number 1 in Men’s Singles world ranking, has been impressive for the last four years as he clinched numerous titles but remained unable to win the crown in World Championships or Olympic Games.
However, this time Chong Wei is determined and has also achieved the highest level of skills to compete against the best shuttlers in the world.
China’s Lin Dan, who is current Olympic and World Champion, will be the only shuttler who is a threat for Chong Wei.
Nevertheless, the Malaysian is ready to challenge him this time as he is fully prepared to live up to expectations.
Chong Wei said that his main target is to win the title at Olympics no matter who are his opponents in his way to glory.
He said, “The Olympics are important to me and I would rather focus on my game rather than worrying about my opponents.”
Chong Wei got an injury in the All England Open Premier Super Series last month and had to quit in the final match against Lin.
However, he is fine now and is competing in India Open Super Series, which is his first tournament after All England Open.
While talking about his prospects in the India Open, Chong Wei said that it is his first tournament after recovering from an injury and he wants to gauge his physical condition in this event.
He said, “The goal is to gauge my condition. I want to see how much I can push myself after the injury. Hopefully, I will be able to achieve good results.”
In the opening edition of India Open last year, Chong Wei won the Men’s Singles title. Now he is expected to defend his title as Lin and Chen Long have given the tournament a miss.
Chong Wei’s main opponents in the upper half of the draw will be Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Simon Santoso, Japan’s Sho Sasaki and China’s Wang Zhengming.
