Lee Chong Wei has options to select his coach as Misbun Sidek returns – Badminton News
The world Number one Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia currently has two options to select for his next coach. He is working with Rashid Sidek and Tey Seu Bock at the moment, but his former coach Misbun Sidek who resigned from his designation in December 2010, has
rejoined the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
The Director General National Sports Council, Mr. Zolkples Embong wants Chong Wei to continue his training under the current coaches. He said that he does not want to stretch this issue anymore and Chong Wei should concentrate on training, as there is not
much time left in the World Championships and Olympic Games.
He also added that the NSC will provide Chong Wei with the best he deserves and he requested BAM that if the top seed is comfortable with the current coaches then he should remain working without even thinking about the coaching issue.
Misbun Sidek will start working after signing the new contract in the next week. He is expected to coach the back-up shuttlers to bring them in the top spots of the world rankings. Misbun will have a meeting with the High Performance Director Mr. James Selvaraj
and BAM Secretary Mr. Ng Chin Chai to decide his line of action.
Both officials will meet Misbun to have a healthy discussion on the future plans and the new contract will also be revealed in this meeting. If the coach agrees on the terms and conditions of the contract then it will be forwarded to the Training and Coaching
Committee which will review and approve it. The contract details will also be sent to NSC for approval, as this council pays a certain percentage of salaries to the officials of BAM.
Misbun has been working hard to train Chong Wei and his contribution to take the shuttler at the heights of success is immense. The coach has served the country for more than 20 years and has also upgraded the level of the game in the Men’s Singles category.
His return in BAM has put many coaches in an odd position, as he is one of the best coaches in the world and his services cannot be denied. Chong Wei has already mentioned that he can produce better players out of the back-up strength.
