Lee Chong Wei needs to compete in all events to secure top seeding in 2012 Olympic Games
Malaysia’s current World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, needs to compete in all upcoming events in order to secure a top seeding in the 2012 Olympic Games. The Olympic qualifying round will end on May 1 and the seeding for the mega event will be declared on
the basis of the world rankings of May 3.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei has been at the top position in Men’s Singles world rankings for the last three years but now his domination in under threat as China’s World Number Two, Lin Dan is just behind him on the points table. Chong Wei needs to perform
well in the upcoming events in order to maintain his top position.
The Malaysian wanted to play in a few events before Olympic Games but how he needs to play in all tournaments in order to remain at the top. He is expected to compete in six international events before the Olympic qualifying round ends in May, 2012.
Lin has been impressive in later part of the current year as he won many tournaments. He has reached quite close to Chong Wei at the points table of world rankings. Chong Wei needs to remain at the top in Olympic seeding if he wants to avoid a clash with
Lin before the final match in the mega event.
Chong Wei said, "Seeding is going to be very important and that is the reason I need to still compete in tournaments. I have to avoid meeting Lin Dan until the final and I must remain in the top two of the world rankings when the Olympic qualifying period
ends."
He further added, "I have to be very focused and maintain my world ranking. I should be playing about six or seven tournaments before the qualifying period ends although I may skip one or two tournaments based on how Lin Dan fares."
Chong Wei will participate in the opening tournament of 2012, which will be Korea Open Premier Super Series, starting from January 3, at Seoul, Korea. He needs to find a good flow again to protect his top position in the Men’s Singles world rankings.
