Lee Chong Wei needs to regain his form before Olympic Games – Badminton news
Malaysia’s top player, Lee Chong Wei, needs to regain his form before the 2012 Olympic Games, which will take place at London, England, from July 28 to August 5. He has recently lost the semi-final fight to China’s Chen Long in the BWF Super Series Finals,
which ended on Sunday, December 18, in China.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei, who is World Number One in Men’s Singles world standings, has been struggling really hard to find his winning form back for the last four months. Since his loss in the final match of Badminton World Championships to China’s Lin
Dan, he lost his confidence and failed to deliver impressive performance on court. However, he is working hard to find a good momentum before 2012 London Olympics.
After the World Championships, Chong Wei lost to Long and Lin in different Super Series and Premier Super Series events. In this period, Chong Wei managed to win only one tournament, which was French Open Super Series.
Now Chong Wei needs to prepare well to challenge two rivals from China including Lin and Long. Both Chinese shuttlers have registered victories over the World Number One in the recent tournaments. However, he is determined to get back on the right track
before the 2012 Olympic Games.
While talking about his recent performances, Chong Wei admitted that he failed to finish the year in style. However, he is confident to regain his confidence and form before the mega event.
He said, “I didn’t have strong finishes towards the end of the season but that’s all right. Sometimes, defeats like these make one even stronger.”
The top seed Malaysian will participate in many international tournaments in the opening months of upcoming year.
He further said, “I will play in several tournaments in the early part of the new year and spend more time training ahead of the Olympics.”
Now Chong Wei intends to put more effort and hard work in training sessions to prepare well for the upcoming tournaments where he will have a chance to meet Lin and Long in decisive matches. He is not dejected on his dip in form as he is confident to get
back on the right track before Olympic Games.
