Lee Chong Wei optimistic for the future of Men’s Singles back-up shuttlers at world stage
Malaysia’s top shuttler Lee Chong Wei is quite optimistic with the fact that there are a few back-up shuttlers in Men’s Singles category who can raise Malaysian flag at international level by becoming world beaters.
The World Number One Chong Wei named four players who can lift up their level to become top class shuttlers at international level. He pointed out Daren Liew, Chong Wei Feng, Chan Kwong Beng and Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif.
All these shuttlers are between 22 to 24 years of age and can become world beaters if they work extra hard in training sessions.
Chong Wei also named two other shuttlers who are young and can become potential players at world stage. These young shuttlers are Misbun Ramdan Misbun and Goh Soon Huat. They have the time to flourish themselves and establish their worth in the next couple
of years.
Daren has been playing impressive badminton for the last nine months and has established his worth by beating Korea’s Lee Hyun Il and Indonesia’s Simon Santoso in the recent events. Kwong Beng also proved his mettle as he defeated Sony Dwi Kuncoro a couple
of weeks ago.
Arif Latif has been performing extremely well at national level and has been beating the national shuttlers but still needs to establish his worth at international level.
Misbun Ramdan and Soon Huat played tremendous badminton in the last week’s National Grand Prix Finals.
Chong Wei said, "Daren, Kwong Beng, Wei Feng and Arif are about the same level and if they can keep pushing for better results, they can become top international players.”
However, the top seed made it clear that these shuttlers have to make it quick in a period of less than two years, which will help them in becoming a successful professional player at the highest level of the game.
Chong Wei further added, "Soon Huat and Ramdan are younger and they would take probably two years. Both have positive attitude and they have already started beating their seniors in the national squad and this competition is also healthy."
The World Number One wants these players to put extra effort to improve their game and become his true successors.
