Lee Chong Wei passes Simon Santoso test easily in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at London Olympics
Lee Chong Wei, the best ever player of Malaysia in Men’s Singles category, shut the mouths of his critics by putting up tremendous performance on court when he defeated Indonesia’s Simon Santoso in a commanding fashion at the round-of-16 stage at London
Olympics 2012 on Wednesday, August 1, in London.
The top seeded Chong Wei, who is World Number Two in Men’s Singles category, played with greater level of confidence against Santoso as compared to his first match and easily registered a superb victory over his opponent with a superb margin of 21-12 and
21-8.
The higher ranked Chong Wei was fast and positive on court and he looked determined in rallies which helped him to maintain pressure on Santoso and he managed to end up the contest in straight games with a one-sided score.
On the other hand, the World Number 6 Santoso failed to survive on court as he could not do anything against the fireworks of Chong Wei and easily lost the match.
Before the start of the contest, many people were assuming that the Indonesia player can make an upset considering that the Chong Wei has just recovered from an ankle injury.
However, Chong Wei defied all odds to prove his worth and kept the hopes of his countless fans alive by proceeding into the quarter-final.
After winning the match, Chong Wei said, “I thoroughly enjoyed myself on court as everything worked well and it was also an easier then expected win.”
While talking about his group match that ended in three games, Chong Wei stated that it was quite helpful for him to remain on court for a longer period.
He added, “The three setter in the group match actually worked out well as it gave me the much needed practice to work on certain shots. Now it is another hurdle that I have to cross and with the prayers of all Malaysians I am optimistic of making the last
four.”
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, Chong Wei will take on India’s spirited shuttler Parupalli Kashyap who defeated Niluka Karunaratne of Sri Lanka in the other pre-quarter-final showdown.
