Lee Chong Wei progresses on the right track to break his record of nine titles in 2010
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles top shuttler, Lee Chong Wei is on the right track to break his own record of nine titles in one year, which he set in 2010.
His tremendous form indicates that he is going to win more titles this year including the World Badminton Championships.
The World Number one, Chong Wei is enjoying smooth sailing in the preceding year, where he has clinched five major titles so far. In January 2011, he won the Men’s Singles crown in Super Series Finals and Malaysia Open Super Series.
In the month of March, the Malaysian hero clinched the prestigious title of All England Open Premier Super Series at Birmingham, England. In the preceding month of May, the top seed won India Open Super Series and Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold.
Chong Wei is far ahead of other Malaysian players from every aspect of the game, in the category of Men’s Singles. The poor performance of other Malaysian shuttlers in the National squad disappointed the coaches.
Rashid Sidek, who is the national coach for Men’s Singles squad, expressed his opinion about the back-up shuttlers by saying that, “I have not seen any players as dedicated and as committed as Chong Wei.”
He appreciated the hard work and dedication that Chong Wei shows during training sessions on and off the court.
“He may be a superstar now but he has not forgotten the basics – to work hard, to take care of his food intake and sleeping habits. He is respectful and has not let success get to his head,” said the coach.
Chong Wei is expected to win the title and break the dead-lock in the World Championships, where no Malaysian has ever won the title in any category of the game.
The World Number one started this year with success and continued his impressive winning run in all events except the Korea Open Premier Super Series, where he lost to his arch rival, Lin Dan of China in the final match. Chong Wei will now shine in the upcoming
event of Sudirman Cup, starting from May 22, in China.
