Lee Chong Wei progresses with a steady pace towards recuperation from injury
Malaysia’s mega star Lee Chong Wei, who got an ankle injury in Thomas Cup Finals two weeks ago, progresses with a steady pace towards recuperation from his injury and is expected to get back in training in four weeks.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei, who is World Number One and the top seed for Olympic Games 2012, suffered with an unusual ankle injury while playing his match against Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark and he had to leave the court for immediate treatment.
He is the best bet of Malaysia to win the first ever gold medal for the country at Olympic Games. However, his injury at such a crucial time has brought doubts for his performance as many people think that he will not be able to play at his best.
However, his fast recovery indicates that he will be ready before the mega event as considering the current speed of healing the World Number One will not take more than four weeks to get back on track.
Chong Wei has been undergoing the stem cell treatment to heal his damaged ligament in his ankle and the treatment was supervised by KL Sports Medical Centre’s Dr. Saw Khay Yong.
He also got his fist physiotherapy session yesterday under the supervision of Sandra Fidler who is a physiotherapist of National Sports Institute.
After the physiotherapy, Fidler showed satisfaction over Chong Wei’s recovery progress.
Fidler said, “Chong Wei is fit again and he is able to walk without much pain. We had our first physiotherapy session since he suffered the injury and the signs are good that he will recover in time."
However, Fidler further added that it will take almost four weeks for Chong Wei to attend his regular training sessions.
Fidler further added, “But it may still take at least four weeks before he can return to training. Naturally, he will still have the fear of aggravating the injury but I will help him to overcome it.”
Chong Wei will not compete in the upcoming tournament of Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 which is set to take place in Indonesia from June 12-17.
