Lee Chong Wei ready to shine at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton news
Malaysia’s ace shuttler, Lee Chong Wei, is satisfied with his training stint at the University of Bath and is now ready to perform at the 2011 World Championships, which will kick-off on Monday, August 8, at the Wembley Arena, England.
The 28-year-old Chong Wei, who is currently World Number One in the Men’s Singles world standings, enjoyed the training camp at Bath, a quiet town three hours away from London. He is satisfied with the training camp as the facilities at the University were
quite good.
After spending nine busy days in training sessions at Bath, Chong Wei is now completely ready to shine in the mega event in which he is placed as the top seed in the Men’s Singles draw. He is completely injury free and is expected to end Malaysia’s title
draught by winning the title at the upcoming World Championships.
The whole Malaysian national squad has left for London today, where they will practice at the Wembley Arena, which is the venue for the mega event. Chong Wei missed the chance to attend the training stint at Bath last year before the World Championships,
but this time he attended the training camp and is satisfied with his preparations.
Chong Wei also wants to attend a long training camp in Bath before the 2012 London Olympics. He said, “This is one of the best centralised training environment. The facilities are good. I really enjoyed my time in Bath. It was good to be with my team-mates
here. I had nothing much to do except train. I had plenty of rest and good home-cooked food too.”
He further added, “I will request for a longer stay here when we return for centralised training before the London Olympic Games. Two weeks will be ideal.”
Chong Wei’s main rival at the World Championships will be China’s Lin Dan, who is currently World Number Two and the second seed in the Men’s Singles draw. If things proceed according to paper, both rivals will meet in the final of the mega event.
