Lee Chong Wei remains firm to stay at the World Number One position – Badminton News
Malaysia’s top Men’s Singles shuttler and current World Number One, Lee Chong Wei is quite determined to stay at this top position in all events before the 2012 London Olympics.
The world’s best athlete, Chong Wei has been struggling hard to find his lost momentum after losing the final of the 2011 World Championships. He was dejected over his loss to China’s Lin Dan in the title match of the mega event.
The 29-year-old Malaysian took two months to get rid of his disappointment and won the title at the last week’s 2011 French Open Super Series. In the semi-final, he took revenge from Chen Long of China, as the Chinese got two consecutive victories over Chong
Wei in the events of Japan Open Super Series and Denmark Open Premier Super Series.
Chong Wei’s performance has been remained impressive throughout the current year as he has played finals in all events, he participated in so far. He is also looking forward to compete in all events to earn as many ranking points as possible which will help
him in getting sufficient time in the upcoming year to prepare well for the Olympic Games.
The Malaysian wants to establish a comfortable difference on the points table, as Lin and Long are not far behind at the moment.
Chong Wei said, "Chen Long and Lin Dan are closing the gap on the world ranking and if I can earn sufficient points in the next three or four tournaments, I can breathe easy.
"The focus next year will be on quality preparation and probably the right time to reduce on tournaments. I will play in the Malaysia and Korea Opens as well as the All England and the Thomas Cup qualifying rounds in the first four months.”
The World Number One will participate in the upcoming events including Hong Kong Open Super Series, China Open Premier Super Series, Macau Open Grand Prix and BWF Super Series Finals.
Chong Wei is determined to play his usual top class badminton in these tournaments to take a healthy lead over his competitors and stay at the top to get the top seeding in the 2012 London Olympics.
