Lee Chong Wei remains focused on the World Badminton Championships 2011 – Badminton News
Lee Chong Wei, who is the most celebrated shuttler in Malaysia, is focused to win the Men’s Singles title in the mega event of the World badminton Championships 2011.
The tournament will take place at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, England, from August 8-14.
Chong Wei, who is ranked at the top in the world rankings, intends to participate in selective events before the all-important tournament, as it will reduce the chances of physical fatigue of playing in back-to-back events.
Wei said, “I am very focused on doing well in the world championships this year. I do not want to face anymore disappointments as this could be my last chance to become a world champion.”
While talking about his plans prior to the mega event, the shuttler said, “There are two Super Series events in Singapore and Indonesia before the world championships and I will go for one – to defend the title in Indonesia.”
Chong Wei has always been unlucky in the World Championship, as the World Number One has never passed the semi-final stage. He is yet to make his presence felt in the final of the mega event.
Malaysia has never won the title in the World Championships in any category of the game. The Badminton Association of Malaysia is optimistic that Chong Wei will break the deadlock this time.
Chong Wei has clinched five Men’s Singles titles in major events including the BWF Super Series Finals, Malaysia Open Super Series, All England Open Premier Super Series, India Open Super Series and the home event of the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold.
The 28-year-old Malaysian lost only one match in the proceeding, which was the final of the Korea Open Premier Super Series against Lin Dan of China.
Chong Wei aims to win the title in the World badminton Championships this time and he knows that he will be facing the top guns from China, Indonesia, Korea and Denmark. His main rivals in the Men’s Singles category would be Lin Dan, Taufik Hidayat and Peter
Hoeg Gade.
