Lee Chong Wei rules Men’s Singles event in 2012 Yonex Denmark Open – Badminton News
Malaysia’s ace shuttler Lee Chong Wei proved himself the real champion and unseated Du Pengyu to claim the Men’s Singles crown in Yonex Denmark Open on October 21, 2012.
This game was staged at local badminton arena of Odense and both shuttlers remained head-to-head for one hour and 12 minutes to read a decisive result of 15-21, 21-12 and 21-19.
World Number one Chong Wei took some time to get settled but he proved himself a late bloomer after winning last two games in a row.
On the other hand, the talented Chinese campaigner could not capitalise his early advantage and surrendered in crucial moments.
Du Pengyu, who holds the ninth spot in the World rankings, played with great conviction in the opening game and bagged first match point on merit.
He did not show any sign of confusion in front of the badminton king and stunned him with a commendable show of skills.
Initially, he employed a cautious approach and gradually raised his total to 11 before the mid-game break.
After the interval, Du Pengyu picked up some pace and left Chong Wei far behind with a notable lead in 21-15 margin.
This development was unexpected for the Malaysian maestro but he did not lose his nerve and counter-balanced the situation in very next game.
He laid the foundation of his supremacy by ruling the court in couple of establishing rallies. He did not lose this rhythm and finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11-6.
Later part of the game was also dominated by Chong Wei as he did not give the Chinese competitor even a single chance to bounce back and blew him away with a staggering knock of 21-12.
Third set proved the best part of tussle as both contenders made every effort to pocket this final match point.
They stood toe-to-toe all the way to game point situation and made the crowd gasp with their brilliant performance.
This cliff-hanging set ended when Chong Wei tipped the scale in his favour with an impressive score of 21-19 and raised hands as champion.
