Lee Chong Wei should take motivation from Boonsak Ponsana, says national coach Rashid Sidek
Malaysia’s Singles national coach Rashid Sidek said that Lee Chong Wei should take motivation from Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana who suffered with an ankle injury last year and recuperated with his steely determination and emerged as the winner of last month’s
Singapore Open Super Series 2012.
Ponsana had to quit playing competitive badminton for almost three months after getting an ankle injury in October 2012. He underwent a surgery and gradually got his fitness and rhythm back and proved that he is back on track by nailing Singapore Open title.
Rashid said that World Number Two Chong Wei has also been going through the similar situation as he suffered with an ankle injury two months ago and has almost recovered from it.
The coach is satisfied with the recovery process of Chong Wei as the shuttler is fit now and is working hard in training sessions at Bath, England.
However, Rashid wants Chong Wei to emulate Ponsana and put the bad memories behind to prove his worth at London Olympics.
The coach stated, “It’s fantastic to see Boonsak back on his feet and winning titles. That should give Chong Wei some motivation to do well too. Physically, Chong Wei’s back to normal ... we’re just polishing up his attacking and finishing instincts.”
Nevertheless, Rashid also said that Chong Wei needs to be consistent in the mega event which is the key to earn good results.
At the same time, Rashid also expressed that the field is quite open in Olympics for all shuttlers and anyone can spoil the party of any top shuttler on a given day.
He added, “But what is important is that he remains consistent and effective throughout the tournament. The Olympics will be an incredibly open tournament and any player can make the final on a good day.”
Chong Wei also showed his commitment and determination and surprised everyone by making incredible fast improvement in his physical condition.
The 29-year-old Malaysian is working well at the moment and will be in action at the end of this month when the competition will kick off at the Wembley Indoor Arena at London, England.
