Lee Chong Wei starts his campaign with confidence at the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei started his campaign with a great level of confidence as he crushed Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in the Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 World Championships, in London, on August 8.
The World Number One and top seed of the event, Chong Wei played in a relaxed but controlled manner in the opening fight and took 31 minutes in the court to throw away his Thai opponent in straight games without any considerable fight.
The start of this first-round contest was interesting, where the Thai shuttler matched the speed of the top seed by playing fast badminton. Both shuttlers grabbed the attention of the huge crowd in the famous Wembley Indoor Arena by playing top standard
badminton.
Both shuttlers kept the pace at the highest level by playing wonderful strokes in all areas of the court. Until the one-minute break, the Malaysian was moving forward with a lead of 11-8.
After taking a break for one minute, the Thai shuttler tried to match the accuracy and perfection of his challenger but failed to maintain the pace of the game. Chong Wei stunned his rival by playing deceptive badminton at the net and also grabbed many points
by executing powerful jump smashes with great deception. He won the first game in just 14 minutes with a 21-15 score.
The following set was closer as compared to the first game of the match, as the score remained tight from both sides. The Thai shuttler was playing with aggression this time and was successful in building up good momentum. He was close to his higher ranked
opponent at the interval by reaching at 10-11.
After the break, Chong Wei changed his tactics and started to play attacking clears which helped him in creating gaps in his opponent’s court. He continued his domination in the second part of the game and clinched it with a 21-17 score by taking 17 minutes.
This straight-set contest of the first round finished-off with the victory of Chong Wei with the result of 21-15 and 21-17.
