Lee Chong Wei storms into Men’s Singles final at Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012
Malaysia’s best ever player Lee Chong Wei showed his class and reserved his place in Men’s Singles final after taming Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in semi-final encounter at Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 at Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on Saturday, May 5.
Chong Wei, who is ruling World Number One and top seed in Malaysia Open, played with precision and registered win over Sugiarto with a decent margin on the score board.
Despite having injury in his right shoulder, Chong Wei played tremendous badminton and did not let Sugiarto to dominate the pace at any stage in the whole battle.
The top seeded Malaysian spent 46 minutes in the court to chuck out Sugiarto, who was third seed in the Men’s Singles draw.
On the other hand, the Indonesian played well in the first set but could not maintain his superiority at the crucial stage and lost it.
He was no match to the impressive craft of his higher ranked opponent and lost the second game without putting up even a slight resistance.
In the opening set, Sugiarto was the first who played aggressive badminton and managed a small lead over Chong Wei in the opening half.
In the meanwhile, Chong Wei remained calm and composed and also was a bit relaxed which helped his rival to taka a small lead until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Chong Wei geared up his speed and executed beautiful tumbling net shots which gave him an extra edge over his rival.
The top seed was in full control of rallies and managed to win the opening game with a small margin of 21-18.
In the second game, Sugiarto tried to get a good rhythm in opening rallies but he failed to create gaps in Chong Wei’s court and remained behind at 7-11 until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Chong Wei continued his smooth sailing without facing strong opposition from his lower ranked Indonesian challenger.
The top seed wrapped up second game in a comfortable fashion by putting 21-18 score on the board.
Chong Wei won this Men’s Singles semi-final fight against Sugiarto in straight games with a decent score of 21-18 and 21-18.
