Lee Chong Wei tames Chong Wei Feng to ease into Men’s Singles semi-final at Yonex Japan Open 2012
Malaysia’s top player Lee Chong Wei, who won the silver medal in last month’s London Olympics, easily secured a semi-final berth after showing exit to his lower ranked team-mate Wei Feng Chong in quarter-final contest at Yonex Japan Open 2012 at Tokyo, Japan,
on Friday, September 21.
The World Number Two Chong Wei, who is top seed in main draw of the tournament, was in complete control on court and he did not face any trouble in defeating Wei Feng who has been positioned at number 33 in Men’s Singles world placements.
Chong Wei has been playing impressive badminton in all matches of Japan Open and remained unmatched in the quarter-final when he easily registered a spectacular win over Wei Feng by ending up the battle in straight sets with a comfortable margin.
On the other hand, the giant killer Wei Feng failed to stretch his winning run as he was lacking the impressive touch in his shots against his experience compatriot and ultimately went down to him in just 28 minutes without proving his worth.
In the first game, the top seeded Malaysian shuttler played fast badminton and pushed his rival in all areas of the court.
Chong Wei did not execute many smashes but relied on the powerful and accurate drives and took a reasonable lead until the end of first half.
After the break, Chong Wei remained consistent in controlling the bird early from all areas and made his opponent work extremely hard to return the shots in right areas. He was calm and focused on court and took the set with a dominating margin of 21-15.
The second game was interesting when as Wei Feng also played impressive badminton in opening points but he failed to maintain his speed and remained trailing behind until the break.
In the meanwhile, Chong Wei injected more power into his shots and troubled his rival by executing wonderful net shots and eventually won the game with a superb difference of 21-15.
The in-form Chong Wei easily stamped his mark over Wei Feng in less than half-an-hour with a comfortable 21-15 and 21-15 score on the board.
