Lee Chong Wei tames Peter Hoeg Gade to enter into Men’s Singles final of Japan Open Super Series
Malaysia’s ace player, Lee Chong Wei stormed into Men’s Singles final as he tamed Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade in the semi-final showdown of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, on Saturday, September 24.
World Number One, Chong Wei played up to expectations as he played terrific badminton against Gade who was the third seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the championship. The Malaysian displayed his huge variety of strokes against the experienced Danish and
emerged as the winner in the straight-set semi-final fight by taking just 42 minutes in the court.
Chong Wei got an excellent start in the first game as he scored nine consecutive points, leaving Peter Gade miles behind. The Danish failed to find momentum in the opening half of the first game, while his higher ranked opponent was playing with incredible
ease. The Malaysian found no difficulty at reaching 11-5 in a flash.
Peter Gade played better in the second-half of the opening set, but failed bridge the huge gap as his challenger was miles ahead. Chong Wei was pretty much in control of the rallies throughout the opening set and won it by a 21-13 margin in just 17 minutes.
In the second game, the Danish veteran played with aggression to tackle the attacking play of his higher ranked rival. Until the interval, the positive game of Gade earned him a small lead of 11-9.
However, after the break, the top seed accelerated his level of play and levelled the score by reaching at 16-16. At this stage, Gade lost his focus while Chong Wei remained on the right track and scored the concluding five points in a row to win the second
game by a 21-16 margin, in 25 minutes. The match ended in 42 minutes by the final score of 21-13 and 21-16.
In the title match, Chong Wei is set to meet World Number Four, Chen Long of China who won the Men’s Singles title last week at the 2011 China Masters Super Series.
