Lee Chong Wei tames Shon Wan Ho to occupy semi-final spot in the 2011 French Open Super Series
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei continues his flawless run as he has occupied semi-final spot after taming Korea’s Shon Wan Ho in the Men’s Singles quarter-final show down of the 2011 French Open Super Series, on Friday, October 28, in Paris.
Chong Wei, who is World Number One and top seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the event, played killing badminton against the lower ranked Korean and finished off the match in two games by consuming only 32 minutes. Wan Ho failed to put up resistance against
the firing Malaysian and lost the match without making an impact.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei played aggressive game in the first game and won it in a completely one-sided way. The second game also revealed the same story as the Korean again failed to play better game against the Malaysian, who was perfect in her strokes
selection and execution.
The top seed is bidding to win the French Open title as he missed two finals in a period of one month, losing to Chen Long of China on both occasions. However, his convincing victory in the quarter-final of the event shows that he is determined to get his
winning run back this time.
Chong Wei opened the first set in style as he took an easy lead without facing any trouble from his Korean opponent. The speed of the top seed was the real difference between both players as the Korean failed to handle it. The Malaysian played focused game
in the whole set and showed no sign of dropping the pace of the rallies. He finished the game easily with a huge margin of 21-11.
In the second game, Wan Ho tried to play fast game in the opening few rallies but failed to earn points as his opponent was everywhere in the court. The planned and perfect play of Chong Wei helped her winning the second game with a 21-11 score. The overall
result of this quarter-final battle was 21-11 and 21-11.
In the semi-final, Chong Wei will take on Chen Long of China, who got a walkover from his team-mate Wang Zhengming in the quarter-final contest.
