Lee Chong Wei to have a fitness test in India Open Super Series 2012 – Badminton news
The upcoming tournament of India Open Super Series 2012 will serve a good platform for Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei ahead of Olympic Games to test his fitness after recovering from a shoulder injury.
The championship will take place at New Delhi, India, from April 24-29 where all top shuttlers from the world of badminton will compete for glory.
The World Number 1 Chong Wei received a shoulder injury during last month’s All England Open Premier Super Series in Birmingham and quit from the title match while playing against China’s Lin Dan.
However, Chong Wei has got rid of his injury as he is working hard in training sessions and is feeling no more pain at the moment.
The Men’s Singles coach Tey Seu Bock said that Chong Wei has recently recovered from injury and it can mentally distract him.
While talking about Chong Wei’s top position in world rankings, Seu Bock said that India Open will not have any impact on his position as he will not slip down even if he loses in New Delhi.
Seu Bock said, "Chong Wei's status as the World No 1 is secure and there is no pressure on him to win the India Open title but it will give him a chance to evaluate how well he has recovered from the injury. The main thing is for him to ensure the injury
doesn't distract him mentally and the India Open will be a good test."
He added, "He will be involved in back-to-back tournaments beginning with the India Open and the Malaysia Open grand prix gold (May 1-6) and it is important that he is in good condition physically."
The best players in Men’s Singles category including Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade, China’s Chen Jin, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat, Japan’s Kenichi Tago and South Korea’s Lee Hyun Il will all go out to earn precious ranking points which will help them to find
a better seeding in Olympic Games.
Chong Wei has a clear upper hand over all these shuttlers as his main rival is Lin Dan who has not yet confirmed his participation in this Super Series tournament.
