Lee Chong Wei to meet Peter Hoeg Gade in Men’s Singles semi-final of the Japan Open Super Series
Malaysia’s top seed, Lee Chong Wei is set to play against World Number Three, Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark in the Men’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, on Saturday, September 24.
World Number One and top seed, Chong Wei passed his quarter-final hurdle against Japan’s Kenichi Tago as the Malaysian won the fight in three games even with an injured shoulder. Now, he will taking on an experienced shuttler from Denmark to find a place
in the final of the event.
In the quarter-final battle, Chong Wei played with a shoulder injury but managed to win the fight in three games against Tago, who played impressive badminton in front of his home crowd. The top seed is expected to play better against Peter Gade, who is
known for his fighting spirit and dedication in the court.
The 28-year-old Chong Wei has participated in eight events this year and reached the finals of all these tournaments. The Japan Open is the ninth event for Chong Wei and he is just one step away from keeping his record going.
While talking about Chong Wei’s shoulder pain, coach Tey Seu Bock said that it is not intense. He also appreciated the terrific play of Tago in the quarter-final match by saying that the Japanese was impressive on court and the local crowd also helped him
in lifting up his game.
The coach said, “Chong Wei was leading 16-11 in the opening game but lost focus towards the end of that game. I am glad he got back into the groove after that. He felt some pain on his shoulder yesterday (Thursday) but it is not serious and there is nothing
to worry about.”
Talking about semi-final encounter, the coach said, “Peter has been playing well of late and is looking good in this tournament. It is important for Chong Wei to stay focused on his mission to reach the final.”
In their previous 14 meetings, Chong Wei is leading with an unbelievable margin of 13-1. He is expected to stretch this lead when he faces Peter Gade at the indoor arena in Tokyo.
