Lee Chong Wei to participate in selective tournaments before 2012 London Olympics – Badminton news
Malaysia’s best shuttler Lee Chong Wei is set to participate in selective badminton tournaments as he wants to prepare well while remaining fit for the 2012 London Olympics, which will kick off in July, in England.
The World Number 1 Chong Wei recently suffered with an injury in his right shoulder during the All England Open in Birmingham two weeks ago.
He had to retire from the final match against Lin Dan of China in order to avoid the aggravation of that injury.
The Malaysian also missed last week’s Swiss Open Grand Prix gold as he was undergoing a proper treatment of his shoulder.
He went to court yesterday after a period of 10 days as he has been getting treatment during this period and seemed much better in the court.
Chong Wei’s biggest goal this year is to win a gold medal in Men’s Singles category at London Olympics and for that purpose he will participate in a few tournaments to remain injury free.
He is scheduled to compete in India Open 2012, Thomas Cup Finals 2012 and Indonesia Open 2012.
He said, "What is important is my preparation for the Olympics, I have quality time for my training as I will only play in the India Open (April 24-29), Thomas Cup Finals (May 20-29) and the Indonesia Open (June 12-17). I must focus on my preparations."
The Malaysian also said that after All England Open he is feeling stronger as it gave him more exposure to handle the pressurising situations.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei also wants to make a few changes in his training with the consultation of his coaches, Tey Seu Bock and Rashid Sidek.
While talking about his current physical condition after injury, Chong Wei said that he is not feeling any pain now but he is also not working too hard at the moment.
He said, "I was able to go through training today (yesterday) without pain but I didn't do any smashing. The shoulder feels fine but I need to know first if there is anything serious."
Nevertheless, he is expected to play in the Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 because of his sponsorship obligations but his main focus will remain on his preparations for London Olympics.
