Lee Chong Wei to play Peter Hoeg Gade in title-match of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei will play against Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade in the title-match of Men’s Singles at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011. The encounter will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on June 26, 2011.
Top seed of the event and World Number One, Chong Wei, had to struggle hard against China’s Chen Long in the Men’s Singles semi-final showdown, as the Malaysian managed to win the match in straight games with a 21-17 and 21-18 difference.
While talking about Chong Wei’s performance in the semi-final battle against the Chinese, national coach, Teh Seu Bock said, “Chong Wei did not play too well against Chen Long and he made too many mistakes, allowing Chen Long to control the match.”
Both shuttlers played well in the two-set fight, as they put up a tremendous show of high-quality badminton in front of the huge crowd at the indoor arena in Jakarta.
World Number Four, Chen Long made Chong Wei work extra hard to secure the win in two sets, with a tight margin. The Malaysian, who is the defending champion in the event, made many unforced errors, indicating that he was playing under pressure.
Seu Bock said, “Chen Long played well to pile the pressure on Chong Wei and this made it difficult for our shuttler to play his normal game.”
Chong Wei got his momentum back by controlling the pace of the game against a spirited Chen Long. The top seed had to dig deep in his arsenal to produce some superb strokes and eventually emerge as the winner of the semi-final battle.
Seu Bock further added about Chong Wei and said, “It was a relief that he managed to overcome Chen Long but he will have to up his game against Christensen.”
In the final match of the event, the 28-year-old Chong Wei will be up against Danish veteran, Peter Gade, who thrashed Japan’s Sho Sasaki, in a one-sided fight of 35 minutes with a 21-11 and 21-14 score on the board.
