Lee Chong Wei trounces Ville Lang in Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s skilled shuttler, Lee Chong Wei proved his seniority in the game as he tamed Finland’s Ville Lang in the Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Arena in England, on Wednesday, August 10.
Chong Wei, who is ruling World Number One and top seed in Men’s Singles category of the mega event, showed no mercy to his Finnish opponent and finished-off the straight-set battle in just 20 minutes. His impressive performance in the second round indicated
that that he is on the right track towards his first title at the World Championships.
In the opening set of the match, Chong Wei played remarkable badminton and took a quick lead and started to employ all of his strokes to test his skills. He easily clinched the opening set with an impressive margin of 21-10, in just 9 minutes.
In the second game, the top seed continued his rollercoaster run against the Finnish challenger, who found himself helpless against the speed and accuracy of Chong Wei. The Malaysian finished the second game in just 11 minutes with the score of 21-11. This
Men’s Singles second round battle ended with the victory of Chong Wei by a 21-10 and 21-11 score on the board.
After winning the match, Chong Wei said, “I had a good workout today. I was playing against a weaker opponent and I went all out to test all my shots. I am quite happy as I certainly played better than my opening match (against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk).”
In the Men’s Singles third round, Chong Wei will take on Korea’s Park Sung Hwan, who is also among the top shuttlers in the Men’s Singles draw.
While talking about his Korean opponent, Chong Wei said, “Yes, Sung-hwan will be a tough nut to crack tomorrow. He is a player who rises to the occasion in major events ... but I am not going to worry about that for now.”
Chong Wei is looking good in the court and he is determined to avail this great chance to become the first Malaysian World Champion by winning the Men’s Singles title.
