Lee Chong Wei wants Badminton Association of Malaysia to change the schedule of Johor Open 2011
World number one, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia requested the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to change the schedule of the Johor Open 2011, which will take place from July 14-17. The top seed said that it will disturb the training session for the World
Badminton Championship 2011, which is starting from August 8.
The scheduled date of the event clashes with the National team’s training session, which will be held in the University of Bath, England, just two weeks before the start of the World Badminton Championship 2011.
The Johor Open is a national event, which requires the participation of all top shuttlers of Malaysia. This event gives opportunity to the top athletes to play against each other and prove their supremacy at national level. However, Chong Wei said that he
will not be able to participate in this domestic event, if the schedule remains unchanged.
While talking about his availability in the event, Chong Wei said, “I do not plan to compete if they are unable to do so. I guess, I will just miss out on an opportunity to compete in this year’s National GP Finals.”
The 28-year-old shuttler further added, “I would rather skip the Johor Open and focus on my preparations for the world championships. Hopefully, the BAM can set new dates for the event.”
The top Malaysian also skipped the Kuala Lumpur Open 2011, which was held in April, because of some other obligations.

The world number one is currently putting all of his efforts in the preparation for the World Badminton Championships, starting from August 8, 2011. He is working very hard in training sessions to produce better results in the mega event this time, as he
has never reached in the final of the event before.
If BAM considers his request to change the schedule of the Johor Open, it will be easy for many top shuttlers to play the domestic tournament. The participation of the top Malaysian players will make the event more successful as the quality of the game will
be quite high.
