Lee Chong Wei wants Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat back on track – Badminton news
World Number One Malaysian shuttler, Lee Chong Wei, wants his Men’s Doubles team-mates Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat to overcome their problems and get back on track before the Badminton World Championships, which will be held in China from August 5-11.
Boon Heong and Kien Keat, who are currently World Number Two in Men’s Doubles standings, have been struggling hard to get a breakthrough but they failed to show any outstanding performance since Malaysia Open Super Series in 2010.
Undisciplined lifestyles, distractions and many other issues have caused the pair a lot of trouble. They failed to win any major tournament in the last three years, which is a big reason to be worried about.
However, Chong Wei advised them to resolve their issues if they want to live up to the expectations in the upcoming World Championships. Otherwise, they will not be able to perform in this prestigious tournament where all top players from Korea, China, Indonesia
and Denmark will be contesting for glory.
Chong Wei said, “I have heard of their problems and have spoken to them and they are trying the best to come out of it. I told them that if they do not deal with it, they will not be able to move forward.”
At the same time, Chong Wei further showed his concern, “I know this is not my business but they are my friends and I do not want them to slide down further. They have served the nation well and continued to be the country’s top pair for many years – and
even now.”
Boon Heong and Kien Keat are the only shuttlers from Malaysia who can pose threat to all top pairs in the world in Men’s Doubles category. They are the top players in Malaysia and have been remained at this position for the last many years.
Malaysian shuttlers have never won the title in World Championships since the inception of this tournament. Now, Chong Wei in Men’s Singles and Boon Heong – Kien Keat in Men’s Doubles are the only Malaysian shuttlers who have a great chance to end the title
draught in this tournament.
For achieving this goal, Chong Wei wants his Men’s Doubles country-mates to overcome all of their problems and work hard with full concentration.
