Lee Chong Wei wants fellow players to accept defeat and look forward – Badminton news
Malaysia’s elite player and World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, wants his team members to accept their weaknesses and defeat in Sudirman Cup 2013 and look forward to get better results in upcoming events.
Malaysian team lost the Group C matches to Taiwan to Germany’s experienced team and failed to make it to the quarter-final stage. However, Chong Wei does not want his team-mates to lose hope and he urged them to look ahead rather than dwelling in the past.
It was a heartbreaking result for the Malaysian players who have been working hard in training sessions. Except Chong Wei, no one could prove his or her worth against the Taiwanese and German shuttlers at Group Stage.
These defeats from lower level teams affected the confidence of Malaysian players and they are feeling down at the moment. However, the Olympic Games silver medallist Chong Wei wants them to rise again. He also commented that Malaysian side has not many
experienced players.
Chong Wei said, “Everyone is down but we tried. I think our women’s doubles players (Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo) fought hard against the Germans. We did not qualify for the quarter-finals. We have to accept this defeat. It’s not that we lacked mental strength.
I’m the most senior in the team and we have a relatively young side.”
Nevertheless, Chong Wei also admitted that all young players need to be highly disciplined which will help them in the improvement of their skills. He positive took the criticism of Chairman of Coaching and Training Committee, Ng Chin Chai and said that
they should move forward.
He added, “I agree with all that’s been said by Chin Chai. We need to improve the discipline of the players in the national team. It’s time to move forward.”
Besides Chong Wei, there is no other Malaysian player who could dominate the world in any category of the game. All players in Malaysian squad are far away from the level of Chong Wei who is at the verge of retirement.
However, Chong Wei wants all players to leave the bad memories of Sudirman Cup behind and build their strength to live up to the expectations in upcoming tournaments.
