Lee Chong Wei wants to motivate national team before the Thomas Cup Qualifying Round
Malaysia’s World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, wants to motivate his team-mates before next month’s Thomas Cup Qualifying Round, which will take place in Macau.
The Malaysia knows that the national team is not strong but he is determined to deliver his hundred percent and wants to inspire all team-mates to perform well in the qualifying round of the Thomas Cup Finals, which is the most prestigious team event tournament in the world.
Chong Wei wants to lead from the front in the qualifying round matches and is determined to deliver a good start by playing top quality badminton.
While talking about the target in the event, the World Number One said that he is not too much concerned with the result as it does not matter for him to win or lost but he wants the shuttlers to deliver their best, which is most important thing for him.
He said, "I am aware that this (Thomas Cup squad) is not the strongest...but being the most senior player in the team, I hope to lift the spirits of the players in the team. It does not matter whether we win or lose but playing with determination is important."
Chong Wei has been impressive in the opening weeks of current year and wants to remain on track until Olympic Games. Nevertheless, he is also determined to win the Men’s Singles gold medal in Olympic Games, which is his ultimate target.
However, he also expressed that the Thomas Cup is a major team event and its importance cannot be denied. He wants his team-mates to show determination in the qualifying round of Thomas Cup.
He said, "My personal goal is to win the Olympic gold but the Thomas Cup will still be top priority because it is a team event. This is a very important year to me...I hope I can maintain my performance for the first six months and remain injury-free.”
Chong Wei’s next individual event will be All England Premier Super Series, starting from March 6-11, at Birmingham, England.
The Malaysian hero will be defending his title in All England, which is considered as the most prestigious individual event in the arena of badminton.
