Lee Chong Wei wants to reach in finals of all international events in current year – Badminton news
The World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, wants to reach in the finals of all events of the year. He has participated in 9 individual tournaments in the current year and reached in the finals of all.
Out of 9 events, Chong Wei clinched 6 titles and lost on three occasions. In the Korea Open Premier Super Series, he lost to his arch rival and World Number Two Lin Dan from China. The Malaysian lost the final of the 2011 World Championships to the same
opponent.
The third defeat of Chong Wei came in the final of the Japan Open Super Series in the last month when he lost to China’s Chen Long.
He won seven tournaments so far in the current year including, BWF Super Series Finals, Malaysia Open Super Series, All England Open Premier Super Series, India Open Super Series, Malaysia Open GP Gold and Indonesia Open Premier Super Series.
The top seed is determined to continue his incredible run of top quality badminton by reaching in the finals of the upcoming Denmark Open Premier Super Series and French open Super Series.
At the Denmark Open, all top shuttlers in the Men’s Singles category will compete to win glory. Chong Wei is expected to face Chen Jin in the quarter-final and Lin or Long in the final of the championship.
Chong Wei said, “It is too early to say whether I can win the Denmark and French Opens but my target is to go all the way to the final. I also want to make the final of all the other tournaments this year. Winning in Denmark or France will be an added boost
but I want to reach the final first.”
He added, “Reaching the final of all the tournaments in a calendar year is something no player has ever achieved. Even tennis greats like (Rafael) Nadal and (Roger) Federer used to lose in the early round once in a while.”
The top seed will be in action in next week’s Denmark Open, which will kick off in Odense from October 18.
