Lee Chong Wei will be ready to face any challenger in Olympic Games, says coach Tey Seu Bock
Malaysia’s Singles national coach Tey Seu Bock said that Lee Chong Wei will be ready for Olympic Games no matter who he faces on the other side of the net.
However, the coach also expressed that the main opponents of World Number 1 Chong Wei will be Chinese shuttlers who are considered as the major contenders for the title.
Three Chinese players are expected to qualify for the Olympic Games including Lin Dan, Chen Long and Chen Jin.
The World Number 5 Jin, who has recently won the Men’s Singles title at Badminton Asia Championships, has virtually qualified for Olympics.
He will reach into top four positions in Men's Singles world placements when Badminton World Federation reveals its rankings on the upcoming Thursday.
Seu Bock said that besides the inclusion of Jin, there is no change in the Olympic draw and that it will not create a major difference for Chong Wei.
The coach wants Chong Wei to focus on his opening rounds without taking any pressure of knockout stages.
He also wants Chong Wei to remain injury free until the mega event. He also said that Chong Wei will be top seed in the mega event as the results in the upcoming India Open Super Series will have no impact on his world rankings.
He said, "Our main aim is to make sure Chong Wei avoids Lin Dan until the final and that has been achieved. No matter what happens in the India Open, Chong Wei as the top ranked player, will be seeded in the same order in London.”
He added, "China has the luxury and the strength to try until the last event to have three players. Be it Chen Jin or Chen Long or other rivals like Christensen, Taufik or Hyun Il, our preparation will ensure Chong Wei is ready to face any one in the Olympics."
Chong Wei has not yet played any tournament after the All England Open Premier Super Series in which he was suffered with a shoulder injury.
However, the defending champion Chong Wei is in good shape now and has left for India to get good results again.
