Lee Chong Wei wins 10th successive title to create history in the National Grand Prix finals
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei continues his peerless run as he has won the 10th successive title in Men’s Singles category in the National Grand Prix Finals. He defeated the younger compatriot, Goh Soon Huat in the final of the championship on Saturday,
October 15, at Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara, Malaysia.
The World Number One Chong Wei has already announced that he will not participate in any domestic event and will focus on all international tournaments. In his last local event, he has created history by winning it and has become the only Malaysian who has
won this national event for 10 consecutive times.
In the final of the event, Chong Wei played tremendous badminton and showed that he is far ahead of his compatriots in all aspects of the game. He played his usual badminton and won the battle easily without any trouble.
In the first set of the match, Chong Wei opened the game in a relaxed way. Soon Huat played with aggression but his wrong shot selection created problems for him as he was playing against the best shuttler in the world. Chong Wei Played with precision and
won the game with a margin of 21-11.
The second set was a smooth ride for the top seed as Soon Huat failed to match the speed of the rallies. Chong Wei faced no resistance at all from the younger opponent and won the set with a terrific margin of 21-5. The top seed won the match with a wonderful
score of 21-11 and 21-5.
After the match, Chong Wei said, "I have achieved my target and I hope the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will understand if I skip this tournament next year."
He will now participate in the upcoming Denmark Open Premier Super Series, which will start from October 18.
Chong Wei said, "In Denmark, I expect to meet Chen Jin of China in the quarterfinal and playing there is important because I am looking forward to earning points and qualify for the Olympics."
Now the top shuttler of Malaysia will fully focus on the international events to earn qualifying points for the 2012 London Olympics.
