Lee Chong Wei’s dip in form is not a big issue, says national coach Tey Seu Bock – Badminton news
Malaysia’s national coach Tey Seu Bock said that the recent fluctuation in the form of top seed Lee Chong Wei is not something to be worried about. The coach expressed that the shuttler has been remained busy in a hectic schedule throughout the year and
got exhausted for the last couple of months.
Seu Bock also said it will not be an alarming thing if Chong Wei, who is currently World Number One in the Men’s Singles world standings, fails to win the title in the upcoming BWF Super Series Finals, which will start from December 14, in China. It will
be the last Super Series event of the year and will award precious ranking points to the best performers.
The coach is also not worried for Chong Wei’s dip in form in the recent events as he knows fully that the top seed has been delivering wonderful performances in all international events this year. Chong Wei reached in the finals of all Super Series events,
except the last two events including Hong Kong Open Super Series and China Open Premier Super Series.
In these two Super Series events, Chong Wei lost to his arch rival Lin Dan of China at the semi-final stage. Lin appeared as the winner of Men’s Singles in both tournaments.
Despite his failure in these two events, Seu Bock appreciated the incredible performance of Chong Wei, who has proved himself that he is the real ‘King of Super Series’.
The coach said, "Chong Wei has reached 10 finals in a row while Lin Dan has been withdrawing from competitions and has also lost early in several events. Chen Long only started doing well after the World Championships (in August)."
He further added, "Chong Wei's workload has been heavy and he is exhausted. Even if he loses in the Super Series Finals, it is not the time to panic as our main objective, the London Olympics, is another nine months away.
However, Chong Wei is determined to perform well in the Super Series Finals, where Lin Dan will be competing for the third consecutive title as he has won the Men’s Singles crown in the Hong Kong Open and China Open last month.
