Lee Chong Wei’s road to final becomes little easy at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton news
Malaysia’s top shuttler, Lee Chong Wei’s road to the final at the 2011 World Championships has become a little easy as his two major opponents lost their Men’s Singles opening round matches to un-seeded shuttlers.
World Number Five, Chen Long of China, who was the fifth seed in the Men’s Singles category of the tournament, lost his match unexpectedly to the un-seeded Kevin Cordon of Guatemala, who played stunning badminton.
In another match in the Men’s Singles category, Indonesia’s Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka received shocking treatment from Ville Lang of Finland. The Finnish delivered a surprising performance against the higher ranked shuttler from Indonesia.
The two major opponents in the way of the top seed and World Number One, Chong Wei, have been sent packing by lower ranked shuttlers and it seems that the top seed will have a smooth sail until the semi-final stage of the tournament.
However, Singles coach, Tey Seu Bock expressed that everything can happen in this mega event and Chong Wei has to deliver his best, no matter who is on the other side of the court.
Tey Seu said, “What we have seen is players with nothing to lose giving their best. They know that they can't win the world title but what they want is to be remembered as the player who sent a big name packing.”
He further added, “We have to be careful and not take any player for granted as this is the world championships where anything can happen.”
While talking about the commitment of Chong Wei in training sessions of the mega event, Tey Seu said, “Chong Wei has been very committed in training. Even when he was nursing the back injury, he would train until he felt pain. His focus has been single-minded
in the buildup to the World Championships and he is determined to win the title.”
Chong Wei is determined to win the Men’s Singles title this time, as he has been unable to lift the crown in his previous five participations at the event. Now, he has got the chance to become the first Malaysian World Champion by grabbing the crown in the
mega event.
