Lee Dong Keun beats Domke Dieter in 2013 Sudirman Cup – Badminton news
Korea’s Lee Dong Keun continued his winning streak in Sudirman Cup and defeated Domke Dieter of Germany with distinction on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
This Men’s Singles encounter proved real test of their mental and physical strength as it prolonged to 63 minutes before ending with final result of 19-21, 22-20 and 19-21.
The higher ranked Korean campaigner served the notice of his supremacy in the opening and ending segments of the showdown and sealed a splendid victory. On the other hand, Domke Dieter could rise only in the second set but his fighting spirit fetched great
admiration for him.
Lee Dong laid foundation of his dominance by claiming some back-to-back points in the preliminary stage of first set. He played with great conviction and doubled his total in no time. This initial lead helped him a lot in piling up a favourable total of
11 in the first half.
After the mid-game break, he lost focus for a short span of time. This negligence weakened his grip and allowed the German shuttler to proceed on the points table. The game kept swinging between both contenders until the final moments and this tussle ended
Lee Dong registered a winning margin of 21-19.
However, story was entirely different in the next set as Domke showed great character and managed to avoid a straight-set defeat. Though he looked bewildered in the beginning but then few productive rallies boosted his confidence.
He raised his chances of success by ending first half of the set with a competitive score. The latter part of game also saw him putting great resistance. He pushed his competitor in all areas of the court and pocketed this crucial match point with 22-20
total.
The decider became consequential with this development as both contenders were looking to claim this final match point. They made every effort to oust the opponent but neither of them could enjoy a permanent lead.
At the half time, both shuttlers were standing equal on the points table and things remained same till the final moments.
However, Lee Dong managed to strike hard when it mattered and won this hard fought tussle with an impressive result of 21-19.
