Lee Hyun Il beats Du Pengyu to win Men’s Singles crown at Macau Open Grand Prix Gold – Badminton news
Korea’s experienced player Lee Hyun Il has won his first tournament of the year by defeating China’s higher ranked shuttler, Du Pengyu in the Men’s Singles final of the 2011 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold, on Sunday, December 4, in Macau.
The World Number 15 ranked shuttler, Lee Hyun has been struggling hard to get rid of his bad patch and desperately needed to win a title to get his winning form back. The victory came to him at the right time as he is looking forward to get a good place
in the 2012 London Olympics. In the final match of the Macau Open, the Korean worked hard to chuck out Pengyu in three games by taking 80 minutes in the court.
In the opening game, Pengyu played well and took a lead in the match by winning it. In the second game of the match, Lee Hyun made a tremendous comeback and took it with a remarkable margin. In the final set, the Korean remained on track and won the game
with a decent margin after a tough fight.
Lee Hyun opened the game in a thrilling fashion as he progressed with an incredible pace by showing no mercy to his higher ranked Chinese opponent. He was going far ahead at 11-6 until the one-minute-break.
After the interval, Pengyu played flawless badminton and levelled the score by reaching at 14-14. Lee Hyun committed many unforced errors and lost the set with a 17-21 score.
In the second game, the Korean bounced back in a thrilling way as played with wonderful aggression. Pengyu was completely helpless against the impressive shot placement of his opponent. Lee Hyun remained focused in the game and finished the set with an incredible
margin of 21-11.
In the deciding game, Lee Hyun remained ahead of his Chinese rival throughout the game until the score reached at the concluding phase. Pengyu played positive badminton at this stage and levelled the score by reaching at 16-16.
However, the Korean showed his class at this stage and won the game with a 21-18 score on the board. The final score of this wonderful 80-minute match was 17-21, 21-11 and 21-18.
