Lee Hyun Il overpowers Marc Zwiebler in quarter-final of Thomas Cup Finals – Badminton news
Korea’s Lee Hyun Il proved that growing age does not matter to him as he overpowered Germany’s young shuttler Mark Zwiebler and played a central role in the success of Korea in quarter-final contest at the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 in China, on Wednesday, May
23.
The World Number 7 Lee Hyun showed his remarkable skills in the court and overpowered Zwiebler who is ranked at number 15 in Men’s Singles world placements.
The higher ranked Korean had to work really hard to beat his talented German opponent and won the battle in three games by taking 67 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Zwiebler lost the first game but found his flow in the second game and won it with a decent margin.
However, he failed to live up to expectations in the final set and lost the match with a respectable score on the board.
In the first set, both men showed their elite skills by pushing each other in all areas of the court as they remained fully focused in the game.
Until the end of opening set, Lee Hyun was slightly ahead of Zwiebler by reaching at 11-9.
In the concluding part of first game, Lee Hyun continued playing impressive badminton and remained in superb control of rallies. He was in tremendous form and wrapped up the game with a 21-16 margin on the board.
In the following set, Zwiebler showed tremendous performance in the court as he played with precision and kept the pace of rallies high. He disturbed the flow of his opponent and reached at 11-3 until the break.
After the interval, the lower ranked German continued putting up gutsy performance and took the game with a decent margin of 21-18.
In the deciding set, both shuttlers played positive and safe badminton this time and remained equal on the board until 7-7.
At this stage, Lee Hyun changed his play and took a reasonable 11-8 score on the score board.
After the break, Lee Hyun played with precision and continued putting up sensational show and took the final game with a 21-14 score on the board.
Lee Hyun won this interesting battle in rubber games with an entertaining margin of 21-16, 18-21 and 21-14.
