Men’s Singles expert Lee Hyun Il stamped his supremacy over R.M.V. Gurusaidutt in first round of the Djarum Indonesia Open and marched into pre quarter-finals of the event on June 13, 2012.
However, the maestro had to tackle strong opposition of young Indian shuttler as this hard fought tussle prolonged to 61 minutes before ending with 21-13, 11-21 and 22-20.
The low ranked Gurusaidutt earned great deal of admiration for his fighting spirit which he showed in three exhausting sets.
On the other hand, this average performance of Hyun Il raised many questions about his next encounter with Danish campaigner Hans-Kristian Vittinghus as he took more than one hour to oust relatively weak contestant in his opening match.
This battle, staged in Istora Senayan Stadium of Jakarta, got started with Korean ace employing all his experience and brilliance to gain an early advantage.
World Number seven Hyun Il got in motion after a slow start and dominated four consecutive rallies to reach at 9-4. He hardly found any trouble in finishing first half with a notable difference of 11-5.
After the interval, Gurusaidutt tried to narrow the gap with couple of power packed invasions but his superior rival managed to maintain an upper hand.
Hyun Il stepped forward steadily and then made difference with a major leap of four back-to-back points. He wrapped first segment of the show with 21-13 margin.
Next game was full of surprises as the suppressed shuttler Gurusaidutt bounced back with a strong reply and stunned his higher ranked competitor.
The Indian lad looked bit cautious in the start but then he broke his limits and played fearless badminton.
In first half of the set, he remained at lower end until 5-8 but then he jumped at 11-9 with six uninterrupted rallies.
Later part of the game saw him magnifying the impact with seven points in arrow. This 18-9 total proved final verdict of his dominance and he levelled match score with a convincing figure of 21-11.
Third set of the match turned a neck and neck contest as the Korean shuttler was trying to save his honour while his challenger was in quest of glory.
