Lee Hyun Il storms into Men’s Singles quarter-final at Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
Korea’s legendary player Lee Hyun Il proved his superb skills and secured a quarter-final berth after defeating Hsueh Hsuan Yi of Chinese Taipei in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Switzerland, on Thursday, March 15.
The World Number Seven Lee Hyun, who has been representing Korea at International stage for almost fifteen years, showed his impressive class by playing with incredible control and defeated his Taipei opponent with a comprehensive margin.
On the other hand, Hsuan Yi failed to compete well against his rival in any aspect of the game and remained struggling throughout the contest. He lost the match in straight games in just 33 minutes.
Lee Hyun started his campaign in the first set in an incredible manner as he played with complete control and remained ahead of his opponent until the one-minute interval by reaching 11-7.
After the break, Hsuan Yi tried to elevate his play but failed to cope up with the speed of his higher ranked Korean opponent and remained far behind.
In the meanwhile, Lee Hyun continued his roller coaster run in the match by playing at his best and easily bagged the set with a comfortable 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, Hsuan tried to play fast game in opening rallies but failed to level the score even for a single time as his opponent was flawless in his shot selection and execution of strokes.
Lee Hyun was in commanding position in the first half as he managed to set up an 11-5 lead until the break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Korean continued snapping his rival’s heel by keeping the pace of rallies at maximum level. His impressive tactical play spared no room for Taipei shuttler to fight back in the game.
Lee Hyun remained successful in finishing the second set in a one-sided fashion with a stunning margin of 21-10.
The Korean bagged this Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final contest in straight games with a 21-15 and 21-10 score on the board.
In the quarter-final contest, Lee Hyun will take on Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen who overpowered Kazumasa Sakai of Japan in another round-of-16 contest.
