Lee Hyun Il strolls into Men’s Singles second round at Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
Korea’s top player Lee Hyun Il started his campaign in a perfect manner as he secured his berth into Men’s Singles second round of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012, which is in progress at Basel Switzerland.
In the first round clash, Lee Hyun showed his class and registered an easy victory over Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro on Tuesday, March 13.
The World Number Seven Lee Hyun, who is the fifth seed in the tournament, displayed his elevated skills and did not show any mercy to his Indonesian opponent in the whole match.
The Korean consumed just 32 minutes in the court to thrash his lower ranked rival in straight games and strolled into the next stage.
It was a thrilling fight as both players started their run in the first game in an impressive way as they played fast and positive badminton and progressed closely.
Lee Hyun remained slightly ahead of his Indonesian opponent in the first game but failed to extend his lead.
Until the 60-second break in the first set, the higher ranked Korean was slightly ahead of his rival on the score board by reaching at 11-9.
After the break, Kuncoro geared up his speed but could not level the score as his opponent was everywhere in the court.
Lee Hyun executed wonderful defensive shots and spared no chance for Kuncoro to dominate the pace of rallies.
The fifth seed Korean remained in complete control and ended the first game with an impressive 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, Kuncoro played slightly better game as he remained equal to his rival until the score reached at 4-4.
At this stage, Lee Hyun lifted up his level of play but again failed to take a comfortable lead as he was just ahead of his opponent at 11-9 until the break.
After the break, Lee Hyun became aggressive and pushed his challenger on the back foot. He was fully focused in the game and took it with a striking margin of 21-12.
Lee Hyun won this first-round contest in an impressive fashion with a tremendous margin of 21-13 and 21-12.
